About the Practice

While Dr. Brown was training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, it became clear that many people from outside Baltimore were traveling into the city to find excellent psychiatric care. Seeing this need, Dr. Brown started the Maryland Anxiety and Depression Treatment Center in Ellicott City to increase access to care in Howard County.

We believe that mental illness is best-treated with a combination of talk therapy and the judicious use of medications. We also believe that for a psychiatrist to provide excellent care they must know their patients well. Because of this, we provide longer sessions, not just quick medication checks. We offer the option of combined sessions in which both medication management and talk therapy are provided by the same psychiatrist. For those who choose to see a separate therapist for talk therapy, medication management appointments are long enough for more thorough discussion and for questions to be answered in depth.

Our goal for prescribing medications is a simple one: to maximize our patients' well-being. To that end, we prescribe medications only when necessary, and the lowest effective dose. We prescribe medications with serious side effects only when they are absolutely needed and for as short a duration as possible.

We know that there are many different forms of treatment available for mental illness, and that each patient is different. We make sure that each patient has a treatment plan that helps them to meet their goals. We also ensure that all of our care is evidence-based so that our patients are receiving treatments that work.
